THE CALANQUE OF MORGIOU
Here is a small remote and wild cove with a small fishing port still in operation and some pretty sheds.
When you are on the port and look at the sea, the path on the right goes to Cap Morgiou. The water is turquoise, and one
finds some small pebble beaches.
Passing by the left, you can go to the creek of Sugiton via a path a little steep,
Know that it is between Morgiou and Sormiou that is the famous Cosquer cave with prehistoric cave paintings.
Difficult to access with its vertiginous rock walls, Sormiou is deserved, but once you are there, you no longer want to leave!
* The Cabins
Originally, they are simple
fishermen's shelters; the sheds made it possible to store the nets and
spend the night in the shelter. From the beginning of the twentieth century, they became
small houses where the people of Marseille come to relax on weekends
in all simplicity, by practicing an art of living close to nature,
without electricity and running water, with great respect for the place
and traditions. Is not "shed" who wants!
** The opening dates of the access road to the Calanque de Morgiou
April-May Access prohibited to motorized vehicles from 07h to 18h30 on weekends, holidays and bridges
June-July-August-September Access prohibited to motorized vehicles from 07h to 18h30 every day
The rest of the year Authorized access
***The Trick
When access is forbidden to cars, and you have to leave it on the Baumettes car park, you will have to count by walking quietly and enjoying the grandeur of the landscapes two good hours on foot to reach Sormiou. The trick, to have the privilege of driving to the bottom during the regulated periods, is to book your table at the Nautic Restaurant (whose phone you will find on Marseille City Life in Sortir/Restaurants), needless to say that you have to do it in advance, because the place is stormed with the sunny days.
