The Museum of fine arts Marseille, created under the Consulate in 1801, is the oldest of the museums of Marseilles.
He was first of the Bernardine convent, before joining the left wing of the Palais Longchampin 1869.
The Longchamp Palace restoration and renovation of the Museum of fine arts were conducted in 2013 to Marseille-Provence "European capital of culture".
The permanent collection of the Museum of fine arts has more than 8000 paintings, sculptures and drawings from the XVIᵉ to the XIXᵉ century.
The ground floor of the Museum hosts the oldest paintings of the 16th and 17th century and the first floor of the 18th to the 19th century. On the ground floor, a room is dedicated to the work of Pierre Puget. Parts of the Museum's most remarkable include works of the Marseille Pierre Puget, one of the greatest artists of the Baroque, the busts of parliamentarians ofHonoré Daumier, the greatest cartoonist of the 19th century, and the most important meeting of landscapes from The school of Marseille.
