The natural of Marseille History Museum was created in 1819, under the dual leadership of the marquis de Montgrand, Mayor of the city, and the prefect, County of Villeneuve - Bargemon, bringing together the collections of the Cabinet of curiosity of the eighteenth of the city and the gifts of the State, in the former library of the Prefecture, Armeny Street.
He was since 1869, the wing of the Longchamp Palace built by the architect Henri-Jacques Espérandieu. Facilities and furniture, large wall cases and display tables were designed by the architect himself.
And since the Museum does not have to increase its collections, to increase the scientific activities.
The museum has 83000 specimens of animals, 200000 plant specimens, 81000 specimens of paleontology, and 8000 samples of minerals. Part of his collection is presented to the public, you can discover them through four rooms:
